LINZ 2019 RECAP
All six crews in Linz got off the line well, with Canada (Smith/Proske), France (Lefebrvre/Ravera-Scaramozzino), and USA (Madden/Stone) at the front with less than a second and a half of separation between first and sixth at 500 gone. USA moved out a bit in the second 500 to take a half length lead on the field at the thousand, but it was still extremely close from second to sixth. Loe and Donoghue of New Zealand raced the fastest third quarter to take a small lead over USA, with the Dutch crew of de Jong and Scheenaard level with Canada. The Kiwis rowed to the win ahead of a furious sprint from Romanians Bodnar and Radis, who won the silver over the Dutch, with Canada beating USA for fourth in a photo finish.

2021 SEASON RECAP
WORLD CUP I
Two of the three doubles that raced in Zagreb were qualified for Tokyo, with Lithuania defeating France by almost eight seconds.
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Romania got out to a quick lead and extended from there to win the European Championship by open water in Varese, Italy. The Dutch won the silver with France taking the bronze over the Czech Republic and Germany.
FOQR
The two qualification spots for Tokyo were won by Russia and Germany.
WORLD CUP II
Bodnar and Radis of Romania dominated the field in Lucerne, taking an open water lead at the 500 and cruising to a nearly six second win of the Dutch. The new USA lineup of Wagner and Stone won the bronze over the Czech Republic.
WORLD CUP III
Three qualified doubles raced in Sabaudia, with The Netherlands winning gold over Germany by three seconds, with Italy winning the bronze.
USA PROSPECTS
The new American combination of Kristi Wagner and Gevvie Stone won Olympic Trials II in April over a strong field and will represent the USA at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The crew raced at World Cup II in Lucerne and won the bronze medal in a field that had some of the medal favorites for Tokyo in it. The crew should be in the mix for the A Final with an outside shot at a podium finish.
MEDAL PICKS
The defending World Champions from New Zealand have split up their winning crew, with Olivia Loe moving into the quad and Hannah Osborne replacing her in the double with Brooke Donoghue. The new double hasn't raced yet, but should be fast and a medal contender. Based on 2021 results, though, Romania will be the crew to beat in Tokyo. Then the remaining spot on the podium will be up for grabs between The Netherlands, Lithuania, USA, Canada, and France.
